First appointment

At your first appointment, the dentist at GMC will perform a complete dental exam. The following aspects will be checked at each recall exam:

• Examination of x-rays: they are essential to detect cavities (especially between teeth), cancers, cysts and bone loss. They also help us evaluate the position of roots or teeth embedded in the bone.
• Oral cancer screening: We check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, oral tissues and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
• Gum disease assessment: we examine the gum and bone surrounding the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease.
• Checking for dental caries.
• Verification of already existing restorations.

Dental cleaning

Scaling and dental prophylaxis are carried out by qualified hygienists. They consist of the removal of plaque, tartar and stains that adhere to the teeth.

Dental emergencies

Several situations can cause pain and worry and deserve rapid attention. At GMC, we will be happy to welcome you as soon as possible.

Here is a list of dental emergencies:

• Intolerable pain;
• Acute infection: abscess, intraoral swelling;
• Oral trauma: dental fracture with pain, avulsed tooth (expulsion of the tooth), dislocation (mobile tooth), lacerated soft tissues, etc.;
• Heavy or prolonged bleeding;
• Dental intervention requested by a specialist doctor: for example: for an organ transplant, cancer or surgical treatment;
• Urgently requested biopsy of oral tissue suspected of being malignant;
• Evaluation, treatment and monitoring of premalignant and malignant lesions;

What to do with my emergency:

Pain: take Advil and or Tylenol and consult the dentist.

Avulsed tooth: keep the tooth in milk and consult your dentist as soon as possible for reimplantation. Take Advil or Tylenol for pain control.

Swelling of the cheeks or face: you should be seen by a dentist as soon as possible as an antibiotic prescription will be required.

Tooth broken during trauma: see the dentist as soon as possible for an evaluation, whether you have pain or not.
